Having previously worked with the client on a different site – where we boosted employee wellbeing and attendance levels by making the canteen a more welcoming and warm place for staff to enjoy – we were delighted to be contacted again to see how we would approach another existing canteen; which was dated, used plain colours and traditional furniture.

Plan

The main objective of the project was to increase dining capacity so that more staff could use the area.

With their vision of a Canadian-style lodge, we worked with the client to develop and integrate a wide range of materials that would create a hardwearing but comfortable space that encapsulated their brand.

Works

Step 1

Works on site began with the removal of the existing furniture which was kindly donated to Sholing Football Club for their new clubhouse. The existing services were then isolated, kitchen units stripped out and flooring removed. As the sub floor was in poor condition, a new screed was applied before work continued.

Step 2

The first elements of the new canteen to be installed were the half-glazed partitions, new LVT flooring and the bespoke kitchen. Tailor-made panels were incorporated into the design for a clean and tidy finish and stone worktops were designed in different depths to accommodate various food preparation facilities.

Step 3

A faux fireplace was incorporated into a soft seating area, featuring an FR treated wood panel installation and stone chimney. The Dimplex Optimyst fire emits a fine mist to mimic smoke. This area was finished with a durable carpet which adds a sense of comfort to the space.

Step 4

New fixtures and fittings were carefully selected, with new lighting and a stunning mountain lake window manifestation being added. As a result, staff can now sit in front of the fire with a view that most certainly beats that of the car park!

The chosen furniture consisted of extremely hardwearing tables and chairs, together with feature bench seating in a wipe-clean vinyl finish.

Result

The Foursquare team had the pleasure of being in the room when it was unveiled to the management team, who all walked in full of smiles. Next up was the team from the main office, who were even whooping with joy! We couldn’t have wished for a better outcome.
